Buddy Shaw spent fourteen years of affiliation and consulting with multi-line insurance agencies in the area of employee benefits. In looking at the industry, he felt the need to broaden his philosophy of personal and extraordinary service to employers struggling with the challenges of maintaining benefit plans to attract and keep quality employees. Therefore, in 1988, he established W. E. Shaw & Associates. Buddy’s philosophy was based on the approach that the employer’s needs are the single most important aspect of the benefit package and that ongoing service to that employer was the key to success. He felt it time in the industry to replace the product driven sales approach for one of services provided to the employer/ client that would assist them in more fully understanding their benefit packages and being able to manage them both from a fiscal aspect and as a solution to meet the needs of their employees.
Within the industry and by their current clients, W. E. Shaw & Associates is recognized as a leader in the employee benefits field. Having enjoyed annual growth in excess of industry standards, today the agency manages over $65 million in premium dollars for its client base, with over 400 lines of coverage in force with 60 different carriers.
Our associates have well over a century of experience in the benefits field. Their backgrounds include a former Chief Financial Officer in a wholesale distribution company with over 1,000 employees in 13 states, a former Vice President of Human Resources who oversaw the benefits package for over 13,000 employees in multi-national locations, a practicing ERISA attorney and a former President of a multi-state manufacturing firm with over 3,000 employees.
